for those who don't know the story,
how did you two meet ?
Pete:
a good mutual friend of ours, Steve Summers, happened to be surfing the web three years
ago at his home in Swansea, Wales. Two hundred miles away, in Surrey, England, Heidi was
doing just the same. They met in an interactive "chat room", became very good
friends, and in the meantime Steve told me all about this posh girl in Surrey who he spoke
to every night on the internet! He also happened to mention that he'd sent her my picture
and told her that it was a photo of him! A few months later, on 27th December 1997, I
suggested to Steve that it would be amusing to travel down to Surrey to meet Heidi in
person! The rest is pure fate. I'm delighted to say that Steve (and colleague Luke) shot
the footage for our wedding video which I'm currently editing - Oct 2002 |

- and how did Pete propose ? |
Heidi:
well, officially we went to Bath on 10
July 1999 with engagement on our minds! Pete was armed with the ring, and he got down on
one knee right in the middle of Abbey Square - in front of lots of Japanese tourists! When
I said yes, we got a rapturous round of applause from the crowd! It was like something out
of a movie. I wonder if any of the Japanese captured the moment on camera?!

- why did you decide to marry in Swansea
? |
Heidi: the moment I set foot in Wales and Pete showed me Swansea
Bay, I knew I was onto a good thing! Swansea's so much a part of me, I've always grown up
being attracted to everything Welsh. A few months later I bought my home in
Carmarthenshire and I feel so at home there, as though I've lived in those hills all my
life. Our church is so beautiful. St.Paul's is right on the edge of Swansea's vast
Singleton Park, its steeple can be seen for miles! Our reception's at Bracelet Bay,
overlooking Swansea's Mumbles lighthouse. It's perfect, and it certainly feels like
destiny.

- what was your wedding dress like, Heidi ?
Heidi: well it was
all a big secret! Marion and I managed to convince Pete the dress would be a hideous two
tone blue thing with a great split up the side and a hat-thing!! When Pete sat down in
church Marion went over to him and whispered in his ear ... "it's not blue!" |
Pete: I
thought "my goodness - what colour could it be?"!! |
Heidi:
Pete turned to Charlie, our Best
man, and whispered "I've been deceived!". Steve caught it on video because Pete
was wired up to a radio mic'! When I arrived Pete's stunned expression was a picture! The
dress was a traditional full-skirted
gown in ivory pearl-embroidered satin with long sleeves and a cathedral train. And no
splits! Click here for pictures from our big day! |
- where did you go on honeymoon
?
Pete: well, if anyone's familiar with the novel "Heidi"
by Joanna Spyri they'd know that Heidi lived in the mountains of Switzerland with Peter
the goat herd! Sounds just like us! So we went on the "Glacier Express",
throough the Alps of southern Switzerland, taking in St. Moritz, the Matterhorn at Zermatt
and finishing on Lake Geneva at Montreux. It was spectactular and we even managed an
excursion into Italy. I went to Switzerland on a school trip when I was 14, and in common
with Wales, I thought it was heaven! Click here to read the"Heidi" story!

what do you love most about each other? Pete: Heidi's so kind, incredibly tolerant of all my faults and
buckets of fun to be with. She loves animals, the countryside, planet Earth and she's
mercifully gentle with my precious snoot!
Heidi:
Pete is such a wonderful loving, caring, sharing, funny person if I go on
youll probably be sick, so you'll have to be content with "I just love
everything about him"! |

|
- so who does the cooking,
cleaning, and who does the d.i.y.?! |
Heidi: well, Pete's in training for the d.i.y. - and I'm his
trainer! |
Pete: i thought washing the dishes was d.i.y.! |
Heidi:
.. and I'll probably cook - although Pete does a
wicked Pot Noodle! |
|
 |
- what is your "tune" ? |
Pete: music is such an important part of our lives - especially if
you live in Wales! Shania Twain's "From This Moment" was the theme tune of the
wedding, it was the first song we danced to on the evening of the wedding. Another one,
Freddie Mercury's "I Was Born To Love You" is very significant - we strongly
believe in destiny and this song says it all. Swansea singer/songwriter Mal
Pope is an exceptionally talented artist and his music is imbued with
such meaning to us both - he was the surprise guest for Heidi at our wedding reception! We
first saw him live at Brangwyn Hall on Heidi's first visit to Swansea. One song that
always takes me back to when we first knew each other is "Secret Love" by
another Swansea artist, Shah. When we first got together as a couple, "What Can I
Do?" by the Corrs is one that also transports me right back to that time and place.
Heidi:
...
there's been so much music that has had meaning to us both - such Savage Garden's
"Truly, Madly, Deeply"; or Boyzone, "Everyday I Love You"
 |
- what's your tip for a perfect
romantic evening ? |
Pete: going for an Italian meal, then catching one of the
awe-inspiring sunsets of Rhossili Bay on Swansea's golden Gower peninsular!
