Welsh Gold Jewellery |

|
Wales has long been a land of myth and legend, but one of the main sources of lore has been its gold. Welsh gold jewellery has been venerated since the time of the Romans when there was a mine in mid-Wales at Dolaucothi. Many historians speculate that this site had been mined prior to the arrival of the conquering Romans. Another well known site for the renowned and precious Welsh gold is the Dolgellau gold belt in northern Wales. These are the two major concentrations of gold in Wales and in the United Kingdom. Part of what makes Welsh gold jewellery so special is the painstaking process to extract the gold and craft the jewellery. In Wales, mining for gold is not done on a large scale. The gold is found in veins, making it purer than gold that must be separated from the ore in which it is embedded. The hand mining process has made this gold rare and expensive, but also prized for its lustre and purity. Since Roman times, Welsh gold jewellery has been worn by royalty in the form of torcs, rings, and bracelets. Anyone wishing to feel like royalty seeks to wear only the finest in Welsh gold jewellery. |
